    Oh my, look at her waist! My sort-of-Grandma (long story!) asked me my waist size once and was surprised that it wasn't 18" like hers used to be. I scoffed at the thought of it then but here's proof! Your blog is great, I think it's very original :)

    Thank you for all of your guys wonderful comments, I am glad you like the post! Bettys are a wonderful thing!

    Crazy thing is that is not with a corset, I havent found any concrete info or photos that she wore corsets but it is a possibility. She did begin to weight train at a very young age and she also wore her belts super tight maybe that was the key to her small waist, and whats CRAZY she still has a tiny waist today, you can see recent photos of her here: http://www.bettyweider.com/

    As a petite lady (5'2"), I was pleasantly surprised to discover that many old Hollywood stars were also petite. Who knew?

    I wish petite would be fashionable again, sometimes I feel like a munchkin :(

    P.S. An 18" waist?? Wow!

    I could be a Betty! I'm Elizabeth, but I've always been called Lisa since I was born. I could not, however have an 18" waist ever again. I think my slimmest was 19", but my other measurements were more in proportion, like 34-19-36. Back in my skinny, pre-kids days! I think the ladies with the ample busts and hips and teeny-tiny waists must have worn corsets to train their shape like that!

    Lovely Betty post! Such teeny tiny little waists! But it is true, a lot of women really were that tiny back then - I know my grandmother's was and still is. Bette Davis is my absolute favourite. Her suit in that last photo is exquisite!
