I need your two cents

I just stumbled upon this super awesome photo of somebodies living room circa the 1940's on flickr and I cant help but wonder, what kind of person lived here? Was it a young couple with great style, an older collector who loved to go on safari's, a business man with a secret passion for living life on the wild side, or maybe a young sex crazed bachelor. I asked my co worker and she thinks this living room belonged to an elderly eccentric collector with crazy white hair like Albert Einstein and facial hair like Kernel Sanders. Who do you think rocked this living room in the 40's? What do you think? Would you make this your living room? Or even better is this your living room?

  1. Oh, I think it was a bachelor pad...I think its the furniture...if there was a bar with stylized tumblers and crystal glasses, then I'd be sure:) I can just imagine some guy in a silk smoking jacket planning his seductions here.

  4. Hmmm... ( first of all I love this question ) I'd like to believe that it was a sexy young couple who were polite, shy things outside of the house but really let themselves go when they came home :0)

  5. This room belonged to a young, hip couple. They often through wild parties with their eclectic friends that turned into impromptu musical sessions and poetry readings. She was from a conservative family and changed her name to Ryoko when they married to break from her past. He liked to smoke and play an African drum at all their parties. They collected sounveniers from friends who traveled abroad, but neither of them ever had the funds or time to leave the country...

  7. Wow, it reminds me of photos that I have seen of my grandparents home in the late 50s. I remember her in a hot pink dress holding a cocktail glass. Haha, but the animal print was absent.

I love all of those ideas. I am thinking a middle-aged professor with black rimmed glasses and facial hair like Colonel Sanders, but black with a black slicked back hairstyle. He's wearing a dapper suit and leaning against the wall holding a rock glass and pipe. Oooh, my dreamy idea.

  9. I say it belonged to a elderly couple who traveled the world and who thought they were uber cool by having an African room like that.

  11. I like the shield being the only thing on the wall, you wonder what this photo looked like in real life + color. That said, what gives with the tchotchkes on the side tables? They don't look like they belong with the rest of the room.

My vote-- young couple, who are certain this style is the very edge of cutting.

    Great blog!!
